CRJ Entry Week 2 Creativity

Journal entry 2

For this exercise we are tasked to do some mind mapping and pick a song or poem.

I had a few in mind, initially David Bowie queen bitch, and then Bob Dylan Mozambique. Then started thinking how the lyrics would fit and thought it might be better using something simpler. Initially thinking Punk and Ska being quite good genres for this type of basic structure.

I eventually came to choose God save the Queen by the Sex Pistols.

I heard the song on the radio a few days ago, thought it was still very thought provoking and seemed relevant. I thought the lyrics being quite simple could be easily manipulated and would work well in this context.

When creating the mind map, I was surprised at how much it changed the song for me and realised I hadn’t really paid that much attention to the lyrics before. Organising them made me laugh especially the lyric we mean it man! I don’t know why that one just tickles me.

Whilst working on big task for work, a particularly boring monotonous task, I have been listening to debates on YouTube to get me through. A couple of quotes rung true and I had saved prior to starting this task, in a way seem to have links to this and might be why I steered back to this song, so I thought I might share them.

(Christopher Hitchens on the Libertarian and Anarchist)

“I don’t make the presumption that those in charge know better than you do. also don’t make the presumption that they have right to tell you what to do unless they have repeatedly earned that right.”

(Clive James)

“A Sense of humour is just common-sense dancing; the humourless man is a joke and a joke he will never get.”
